It’s time to gear up for summer and adventure in the Colorado Backcountry! Learn the skills to take you from a hiker to a backpacker and have a blast doing it.
Mountain Side Gear Rental has partnered with the Savvy Hiker to present the 2018 Unplug and Adventure Series. This series provides the necessary gear, all food and snacks, survival and first aid training and some amazing excursions in the Colorado backcountry. Our certified backcountry experts will develop your skills and abilities to be the confident backcountry trekker that you want to be. Meet some amazing people, have fun, and see Colorado like you never have before. With a series of four backcountry adventures this summer, starting with an introductory overnight trip and culminating with an amazing multi-night trek, we guarantee you will never hike the trails the same.
YOUR HOSTS
Jessica is a Colorado backcountry expert, a Texas transplant that has spent more time in the Colorado backcountry than most natives and the Founder of the The Savvy Hiker. Jessica’s amazing skill set and expert knowledge will guide you from backcountry novice to expert trekker over the course of the summer.
THE GEAR
Mountain Side will provide every participant a complete backpacking kit loaded with premium gear. Your choice of backpacks and a down or synthetic sleeping bag will compliment the backpacking tent, cookset and stove, necessary equipment and everything else in this 16 piece kit. With gear from brands like Mountainsmith, Deuter, Big Agnes, and GSI Outdoors you can be assured this gear is made for trips like these.

Each trip is capped to 12 paid participants. The only way to guarantee your spot in the series is with a reservation. Reserve each trip or the entire series with only a 50% deposit. INTRO MEETING
Attention beginner backpackers, new Coloradoans and anybody seeking backcountry knowledge and great times! Join Mountain Side Gear Rental and the Savvy Hiker for an introduction to backpacking that includes your gear, survival skills, first aid essentials, packing skills and an inside look at customizing your outdoor experiences. Enjoy cold beer, meet your hosts, make some new friends and prepare for a summer of adventure!
BEGNNER I
Attention beginner backapckers! It’s time to experience the majesty of the Colorado mountain range fully outfitted and ready for adventure. Mountain Side Gear Rental will equip you with the essential gear, hygiene products, food and snacks and a few extra “necessities.”
This round trip will be 6 miles with an elevation gain of 727 feet from a starting elevation of 9,500 feet. You will expereince rocky trail, flat wide gravel and camp scouting in a plush forest with deer, moose and coyotes in the area. The Savvy Hiker is there to guide and support your outdoor adventure. Learn the basics on scouting, navigating, and evolving your backcountry knowledge.

BEGINNER II
You’ve experienced your maiden backpack voyage and learned how to navigate terrain, the wildlife, scout your campsite and try out your new gear. It’s time to gear up again and take your adventure to new heights!
Including all of the gear, food, snacks and extras as in Beginner I, this round trip will take you 17 miles with an elevation gain of 3,375 feet from a starting elevation of 9,500 feet. You will experience rocky trail, flat wide gravel, river crossings, beautiful lakes and scenic views while scouting for your campsite.
SOLO HIKER: $299 COUPLE: $499
INTER- MEDIATE I
You’ve graduated from your beginner experiences backpacking and learned how to navigate terrain, the wildlife, scout your campsite, get comfortable with the gear, learn Leave No Trace and prepare for the sudden changes Mother Nature can bring about in the Colorado High Country. You’re ready for bigger challenges and this won’t disappoint!
This is what is all about: Adventure, memories, fresh-air, and great times! This round-trip is a strenuous 11 mile trek with an elevation gain of 3,780 feet from a starting elevation of 7,500 feet. With a mix of rocky and gravel trails, river crossings, amazing scenery and one of the most magnificent waterfalls in Colorado, this trek will challenge and wow you at the same time.

INTER- MEDIATE II
SEPTEMBER 22-25, 2018 FRYING PAN WILDERNESS
You’ve put many miles underfoot, suffered sore quads and are ready for more. The confidence you’ve gained in the backcountry has led to a full understanding of pack-weight, elevation and distance, the importance of calories and hydration and how to be comfortable in the great outdoors with nothing more than what you carry. You want more of everything and this trip will deliver, just make sure to bring your fishing pole on this trip.
The round-trip trek will be a challenging 14.4 miles with an elevation gain of 3,000 feet from a starting elevation of 9,100 feet. The trail has numerous river crossings, incredible views and plenty of lakes with wild Colorado trout. This trip is a celebration and an introduction to fishing for those that never have and a paradise for those that do. We will savor our fresh fish for dinner, meal prep, lounge in hammocks, eat, fish and fish some more.
